CNN Refuses to Apologize for Twisting Truth

After a week of getting bashed by America for seemingly twisting the truth, CNN refuses to apologize to John Cena or WWE. Cena was obviously upset with CNN's decision to air a modified version of his interview. After being edited, CNN's interview seemed to suggest that Cena did in fact take steroids. However the unedited version shows that he was very clear that he did not take performance enhancing drugs. Both versions of the interview can be seen here: CNN Interview With John Cena

John Cena was disturbed by CNN's decision. "Something like that, one phrase like that, CNN doesn’t know the credibility they ruined. They’re just trying to drive their point home, which is just a matter of opinion." WWE believed that CNN owed Cena an apology for editing the interview in such a manner. Even Cena believes that "the right thing to do is for them to offer some sort of apology."

However, an apology does not appear to be coming from CNN anytime soon. Below is CNN's response from CNN's Director of Public Relations, Jennifer Dargan:

"CNN felt that Mr. Cena's statement in the interview:
"My answer to that question 'have you ever used steroids' is -- the only thing I can say -- I can't tell you that I haven't, but you'll never be able to prove that I have"
was a more expansive and complete answer -- and that's why we used it in the first run of the program. And we stand by that decision. But, we added the other quote on the Sunday replay where Mr. Cena first denied using steroids. We did this because of his complaint and the attention it received so that viewers could see how he said it both times."

As you can see, CNN does not believe they did anything wrong in handling this situation. What do you think? Post your comments below. You can also see the orignal unedited version and the edited version of the interview here: CNN Interview With John Cena

John Cena Interview

I am a HUGE fan of John Cena, as well as my sister, so how CNN took so much out of context shows just how ridiculous they truly are. Just because you want to drive your point home gives them no right to take things out here or there to get their desired result. John Cena was kind enough to give them some of his time and instead of being grateful, they act as jerks. Juhn Cena should have gotten an apology and CNN's respone to the outcry from America doesn't constitute as an apology. CNN needs to learn how to behave appropriately and learn to listen when something is said to them.

John Cena Interview

I believe CNN did what most media outlets do. They conduct an interview and try to get the person to say as much as they can so that they have more material to edit into what they want the public to view or hear.

I am amazed that any media can get a person to agree to be interviewed thses days. If I were ever in a position where someone wanted to interview me I would take my time and think of the answer I was going to give and word it just right. When they asked if I were hiding anything due to my lengthy pauses I'd tell them directly that I was being very careful not to give them too much to edit.

John Cena Interview

This is the problem with having total freedom of the press. They take a very broad answer and statement and twist it to get ratings. I personally think that they owe John Cena and the WWE an apology and I would not blame Cena if he got a lawyer and sued them for everything that he can get. It is about time that the first amendment got a redefining and it is ashamed that it will be at some ones reputation and expense.
